Casa–blanca  Moscow Russia

Moscow, Russia

My dear friend asked me to come to Russia and create a garden for his new modern house build in the most prestigious suburban area of Moscow.

The name and the architecture of the house “Casa-blanca", the white house are inspired by Casablanca, Morocco where the owner spend several years serving as a diplomat.

This house, one of the top 100 houses in Moscow, was built and designed by two Russian architects in avant-garde style.

Influenced by the architecture of the house, I created an orthogonal minimalist garden that strays away from Moscow traditionalism. The simplicity of the cedar hedge and the white climbing hydrangeas has several functions: hide the neighbors’ red brick fence and borrow the scenery of the 50 feet birches and pines. The result is an integration between nature, background landscape and garden. This technique is using what is known as the “shakkei" principle.

I chose only native planters like weeping birches to soften the cores of the property. I used white hydrangea, Annabella to create a mass of white flowers and Jasmin ( Mock Orange) for its stunning fragrance. The greenery and the floral ensemble subtly compliments the orange cow statue, that is the focal point of the garden.

The project created a lot of interest and was published several times in different magazines.
